Why I No Longer Use a Rasp in Rhinoplasty, and what is "precision rhinoplasty"

Traditional rasps remove bone by scraping — a less precise, more traumatic technique that can create microfractures and irregularities. As rhinoplasty has evolved, so has the technology.

Why I Stopped Using Rasping

  • More trauma to soft tissue

  • Higher risk of bony irregularities

  • Less precision on small adjustments

  • Less control over edges and contour

What I Use Instead

I exclusively use powered burss and ultrasonic piezo, which:

  • Shape bone with micromillimeter precision

  • Reduce swelling and bruising

  • Avoid irregularities

  • Allow smooth, controlled dorsal refinement in many more ways then rasps allowed for.

  • Are ideal for both primary and revision rhinoplasty

Ultrasonic tools and power instruments allow me to refine the nasal bones exactly — without unnecessary trauma.
