Why I No Longer Use a Rasp in Rhinoplasty, and what is "precision rhinoplasty"
Traditional rasps remove bone by scraping — a less precise, more traumatic technique that can create microfractures and irregularities. As rhinoplasty has evolved, so has the technology.
Why I Stopped Using Rasping
More trauma to soft tissue
Higher risk of bony irregularities
Less precision on small adjustments
Less control over edges and contour
What I Use Instead
I exclusively use powered burss and ultrasonic piezo, which:
Shape bone with micromillimeter precision
Reduce swelling and bruising
Avoid irregularities
Allow smooth, controlled dorsal refinement in many more ways then rasps allowed for.
Are ideal for both primary and revision rhinoplasty
Ultrasonic tools and power instruments allow me to refine the nasal bones exactly — without unnecessary trauma.
